Does anyone have an idea on how to check the disc size without actually removing wheel and manually measuring? Seems volvo use various disc sizes/calipers even within the same model.

Regardless of who makes the Volvo pads for them - it will be to Volvo's own spec and they will be contractually prevented from selling the same pads under their own brand. The only way to get Volvo quality pads is from the Volvo network (not EuroCarParts...)

I've never seen pagid branded on any volvo factory pad … They are reasonable pads for "ordinary" cars but volvo ones are the only ones guaranteed to work properly with the vastly complex braking system . for example the brake ecu knows the temperature of each disk by measuring the time they have been applied for , The pressure in the hydraulic system , the ambient temperature and the particular brake pad material . That calculation will not be accurate if you use some unknown pad .

The picture below indicates Details about the pads used on the V60 V70 S60 etc .. Left is the rear pad and right is the front pad .

They tell you where they are made ,
The manufacturer of the pad ( the metal bit ) either TRW or ATE
The manufacturer of the friction material Galfer 4601 or Jurid 3220gg
where they are manufactured , Italy or spain

And VOLVO of course to prove they have been tested and approved to volvo standards to work properly with their cars …

If your brakes feel "sharper" after fitting non volvo pads then the ECU is going to think the brakes are cooler than they actually are which is not good .

.....and that's my point. ATE, TRW and others may assemble the brake pads for Volvo, but the exact spec and recipe for the friction compound is specific to parts sold through Volvo and other pads from ATE and TRW are not the same - cannot be the same due to restrictions in their contract with Volvo. It will be the same for other premium manufacturers.

However it doesnt mean that the manufacturers material is the best, they might have a strong preference for low dust or long life, etc which can impact upon stopping power. It is possible that a leading pad manufacturer could produce a better pad from a performance point of view, but may be dustier or wear quicker. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I personally prefer good brakes over dust or longevity (within reason), but others may prefer shiny wheels over reduced stopping distance.
On the whole though, OE is a solid fail-safe choice.

That has always been the case with most volvo parts for many decades , there are even different grades/qualities for Bosch parts !

The right pads for the vehicle/caliper will all be the same shape.
Different caliper manufacturers make various calipers which take a certain shape pad, and each caliper design uses a unique pad shape, but the pads for a particular caliper from any company are all the same shape.

If you mean are pads for ate caliper and trw caliper the same shape, no.

I put Pagid on the back of mine a couple of years back and had no issues with squealing, disk wear or breaking performance.

When I changed the rear pads and disks last year, I put Brembo on. I've no doubt volvo branded are good but I trust the Brembo name. So far no issues

My experience with Volvo pads over the last 140,000km on the XC60 has always been good as regards performance, feel and lack of squealing. The only issue has been the amount of dust they seem to generate which makes the wheels dirty quickly.

Recently I've tried a few different non Volvo brands (Bosch is the one that springs to mind) and they work fine with less dust but I have had a minor intermittent squeak problem that I have never had before with Volvo pads.

My attitude is that as long as the pads are a name brand then I'll use them, but only if they are significantly cheaper than the Volvo pads
