How many of you had dpf problems, high oil consumption?
Does dpf regeneration shortens engine life (oil rings) ?

I flushed mine with liqui moly engine flush twice and it runs sweet with no noticeable oil loss.
Common fault is a blocked egr valve, clean that out.

Others have reported a problem with a blocked oil separator gizmo under the oil filter causing high oil consumption.

Istra as in Croatian coast?
My Brother loves Pula.

Yes Istra as in Croatian coast, near Pula.

New egr valve, new oil separator gizmo, rebuild turbo...

Several members reported high oil consumption.

Osullivant changed oil rings, JJL was on the way to do it . I would like to hear anyone else did it and the did it help because it is not a cheap solution.

Could constant dpf regenerations bring to worn oil rings?

Try flushing a couple of times as if the rings are stuck that may help?

Brother used to stay with friends who's father owns a restrauant in Pula called Francos, he absolutely loved it there!

I sold mine for scrap at 165,000 miles because it was burning so much oil. To me it wasn't worth putting any money into it to get it rebuilt. The piston rings were diagnosed as the problem by two separate garages.

Was this due to poor servicing (oil)?

No, It had a very comprehensive service history, mostly done at Volvo. Always done on or ahead of schedule. Every time that car had even sneezed it went in to Volvo for a check up. It was extremely well looked after which was why I purchased it. I think a large proportiong of the early 185 engines with the DPF will see this issue when the get over 150k miles. It seems quite common already.

I hope it's not a common problem, see a lot of high mileage D5 185 for sale.

My car has a good service history too which is why I purchased it
My brother's v70 d5 163bhp has nearly 300.000 miles and no problems.
