2002 V70 tailgate courtesy lamp switch.
What sort of system does the tailgate courtesy lamp switch work on please.
The DIM (when it works) says tailgate open and the rearmost lamp stays on. Or it would if I refitted it.

I've read that small switches break in the lock mechanism. I don't believe the rear lock is addressed.
I do not know if a small tweak of the striker could align the parts better or if a wipe with rubbing alcohol could clean a switch. I wouldn't get my hopes up. Worth a look? |

Yes, the switches are part of the lock. Check for any movement in the tailgate when in the closed position, make sure it fully latched, there is a secondary not quite closed position like with the side doors. This will show up as open with the orange light on the dash illuminated.
Also have a look to see if the other electrics on the tailgate are working (number plate lights, wiper, heated screen etc) they share a common earth which has been known to corrode where it terminates inside the car. Also examine the tailgate wiring where it passes from the tailgate to the car body, you'll need to take off the trim on the nearside rear pillar to do this. Wiring splitting and failing is another known issue. |
