Default 98/99 V70R AWD to front wheel drive conversion?

Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone has done the conversion and if so are there any electrical/software issues regarding doing so on a late P1 vehicle? I’m guessing along with the usual gearbox/pedal box/flywheel/clutch etc is the rear diff assy left in and just dragged along or is that removed as well?

I know I’ve been a bit vague there but if anyone has any prior experience in doing the job I’d live to hear from you. Cheers,

Rob

Most 'conversions' just remove the propshaft. It's incredibly common for the AWD to fail due the angle gear sleeve or viscous coupling, so most AWDs are at this point FWD anyway.

do you know what's wrong with it. Does the car still drive! It may just be the prop shaft failing, or it might have already been removed!

Not had a decent look underneath it yet but there’s some horrific noises coming from down there. It does drive and when giving it some welly on wet grass only the fronts are spinning.

You need to jack the car up and get under it to check that there is a prop shaft before you go any further with this.

Or buy a front wheel drive one that’s old and high mileage but in good working order.

Just take the prop off - that's all you need do. The noise is the angle gear coupling sleeve, the teeth will have been worn off - and probably those on one of the shafts too. Mine went at around 180K miles and I ran the car without the prop for another 50K miles before a split heat matrix cooked the engine on the M1.
