855 (Estate) Rear Quarter Light Installation
I recently had my rear quarter light smashed whilst parked on a London street and couldn't find much information on how to install a new one so I thought I'd jot it down here for someone in the future.
The trim is screwed on with 2 x T10 countersunk screws and then slides off longitudinally. The glass unit is bonded in to a rubber seal, and that is how it comes from the dealer. There is a hard rubber gasket that interfaces the seal and the body side and that is very hard to save unfortunately. The way I got round this is to lay a bead of windscreen sealant first, let that dry, and then use it as a rubber gasket. Apply another bead on top and the glass unit should locate on one dowel on the leading edge. Leave to set with gaffer tape. The aerial connection pops in much like a 9V battery connection.
Hope that helps someone who is as unfortunate as me!
