Default Tailgate on Volvo 850 Estate

Hi There, this is my first post on the Volvo forum,
I'm having a problem opening the tailgate of my volvo estate 850 t5
its stuck shut and I have no idea whats going on,
can any on point me in the correct direction please.

no the tailgate will not open from the inside nor the outside, the lock sounds as though its thing with the key but it obviously isint. I'm snookered I just can't work it out

I've tried to take the back panel off inside the car but it will 6 come off around the handle from the inside?

Have you tried getting someone to push it hard shut while you try to open it? Did you lock it with the key or remote fob?

I locked it with the key not the remote fob and I've tried somebody pushing it open but I think the leaver is not working so i'm going to have to try and get the back panel off to see what is going on.
The problem is- I cant get the back panel off as it's stuck around the leaver from the inside .

you need to remove the inner trim first around the inner lever.prise it off with a screwdriver looks like pic inside (probably with a few more lugs along the top cos they can break off ! thats the side to pry it from,not the wide bit

there are 4 clips along the top and bottom of the inner panel - these also tend to break when removed.dont know if you are able to release the lower ones with the tailgate shut
