Default Potential PCV problems

I have the 2.0 Litre 20 valve. I have heard some engines have PCV problems. What should I look at, check or keep an eye out for, regards this?

Hi

With the engine running, if you take the dipstick out, does it puff smoke (bad) or does it gently suck in (good)?

You can test by fixing a rubber glove over the tube and see what happens.

Hope that helps,
Steve

What mileage has it done?
As Steve says, check for fumes from dipstick, have a check of pcv hoses to see if they are hard / brittle, not sure if your engine has a flame trap, if it has then clean / replace it.
Eventually the oil trap / hoses will need replacement, not a hard job to diy but intake manifold has to come off.
Regular oil changes...with good quality oil recommended.

It has done 250,000 miles.

Thanks for the info. I will look to see of there is a flame trap and check hoses.

Always change oil every 4k to 5k miles. Fit genuine volvo oil filter and Shell Helix 10/40 semi synthetic.

Done the test. Small hose near cam cover at front is quite hard but there is suction when I put rubber glove over oil filler and dipstick tube.
