V70 Brakes: pedal characteristic's, emergency braking

Hi folks

I had to slam on the brakes for a second or so the other day, cant remember why now, not important, but when i did, it felt like the pedal dropped about halfway and the ABS kicked in and i felt the tyres bite, the braking was for no longer than a second im sure but im also fairly sure that the pedal doesnt normally drop like that?

Volvo call it "emergency brake assist".....

The brake assist system (BAS) helps to increase brake force during braking, and can thereby shorten the braking distance.

The system detects the way in which the driver brakes and increases brake force where necessary. The brake force can be boosted up to the level when the ABS system is engaged. The function is suspended when the pressure on the brake pedal decreases.

Note
When BAS is activated the brake pedal lowers slightly more than usual, depress (hold) the brake pedal as long as necessary.

When the brake pedal is released, all braking ceases."
