Unhappy Im going to cry!

Well looks like the 440 turbo might be sent to the dealership in the sky.

had a nightmare changing the sparkplugs, nly for the nightmare to become a hell of alot worse.

No.3 plug has sheared off in the head!

So what do i do to fix this, im guessing the head is now written off so need to get a replacment or repair it, either way im going to have to do a full blowen top end rebuild.

will the head off a non turbo 1.7 fit ok? as i belive the compression is controlled by the pistons!

Makes the 10 fault code ABS seem a lil less of a problem now (oh and i cancelled the mot, no point taking it running on only 3!)

Thanks in advance
Bryan

Bad luck Bryan!

Is the plug cross threaded and stuck or has the threaded part of the plug snapped off and stuck in the hole? If the threads in the hole have been threaded then this can be fitted with a heliocoil - the head would need to come off though.

Plug has sheared in the head leaving the threads in the head (the plugs are the original volvo ones from new! so are 14 years old and have done over 104k might explain the poor running!) not sure if it's worth reparing this car now, it's only worth £300, but then again it hasnt got any rust (only a small surface bubble thats easy to fix)

And been a turbo as well makes getting the spares a right bitch!

I guess that the remnants of the plug could be removed but I the head would probably still have to come off..................

hmm, well i was planning on changing the timing belt, might as well order a topend gasket kit at the same time, ill try the easy out method but have NEVER had success with them, they usualy sheer off and them make the problem even worse.

Where's my yellow pages?

The 440 turbo engine is the same unit as the 480 turbo. I'm not sure about the ES or S models though. Turbo engines normaly have harder valves etc. If you don't get the plugs out you could try your luck on FleaBay, someone might breaking a turbo or you could try the lads&gals over at http://volvo480.dragons.org.uk/forum...a21f1b04916e10 B18FT is the engine you're after.

Good luck...

best way to describe it you have drill bits then like star shafts you drill it then bang in the tight fitting piece then you put a coller over it and you put a spanner on that very handy to have
