Default Remap

Hi Forum,

I have been looking into remaps for my xc70 D3 and as much as I would like the Polestar map I just can't get over the price. My Local dealer in Edinburgh won't/can't shift on the price (£830) so it looks like I will be getting a Celtic tuning remap done instead for £360. The Celtic one is 10bhp down on the Polestar map but I can live with that for a saving of over £450.
My car is out of warranty so I have no issues there and the insurance company are fine with it as well.
The Celtic one will give me 215bhp and 350lb/ft ish of torque.
Ta,
Deano.

I'm still unsure about a remap. I had a BSR one on a SAAB once - it may have been bad luck but it blew a turbo, wore another very quickly, was most likely responsible for the gearbox failing and generally left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have a twin turbo 205, D5 and it seems the only option is Polestar. There's no way I'd pay £800 quid for one. I have heard that some dealers will do them for £500 on 3+ year old cars.

I'm still unsure though - I'm just a bit uneasy with chipping a 6 year old, 115k car. I want it to last and not have added transmission, engine worries.

I have been fine so far with all the cars I have had remapped. Had a Saab 9000 pushing 360bhp with over 100 thou on the clock and even my old 900 T16s was solid.
The cars I have had remapped to date are as follows.
Saab 900,
Saab 9000,
2 saab 9-5's
Audi A3,
Audi allroad,
Audi A6,
Audi S6,
Audi A4,
Alfa Giulietta.
Fingers crossed my luck goes on.
Ta,
Deano.

I'm not sure you have this right. I don't know about the Celtic maps, but Polestar don't offer a map for your vehicle.

The polestar map that is offered that you refer to (225bhp) is for the AWD variant of the car. The AWD D3, for whatever reason, doesn't use the 2.0 single turbo 163 bhp engine that your FWD car has, but instead uses a version of the 2.4 litre twin-turbo that has been software limited to 163 (D5244T16) from the stock 205bhp (D5244T10). Since the difference between the two engines is purely software, the remap brings both up to 225bhp and they are the same at that point.

Polestar don't appear ever to have offered a map for the 2.0 5 cyl 163bhp - they've offered them for the 136bhp version, bringing it up to the same 163, but nothing more.

It doesn't show on their website but the dealer in Edinburgh confirmed they could do it. At the end of the day Polestar are not getting my money as the cost is outrageous imho.

Looking round the web and it looks like the dealer is wrong as you said.
I hope Celtic tuning have gotten it right as well.

Celtic tuning show the D3 as 160bhp on their website so I can only guess the 163 my car has is ps and not bhp and 160 is what 163ps is in bhp. They don't specifically do the d3 xc70 fwd but do the v70 and confirmed that the software would be the same and they are pretty much the same car.
