Default Service intervals om 2012 P3 D3 S80

I am a little confused on this front.

I had my S80 D3 serviced by Taggarts Volvo in Glasgow on October 2014 at 44k miles. The cars now on 51k miles and it's popping up the "book maintenance" message. The garage told me it wasn't due until around 60k miles. It was a big service with the aux belt/tensioner done + ATF done.

I am off to France in two weeks and was planning on return to service it and get the front tyres changed.

Should I bite the bullet now or would it ok to leave it when I get back (I'll probably do around 4k miles once there).

Mechanically the car seems fine.

Service intervals are mileage or time, whichever comes sooner.
You're not doing the mileage so you go by time so unless you're on 2 year intervals, you should have had another service in October 2015.

Sorry, my bad - made a typo. It was serviced in October 2015. I've done all those miles since October last year.

I've done 7k miles since October (5500 of them last month) so I am shocked it needs serviced again so soon.

They could have forgotten to reset the service indicator, but my previous cars checked the oil condition and threw up a message when the oil needed changing.
My wife's mini gave a service message when the brake pads were low.

I'd err on the side of caution and have an oil and filter change done before you going touring. 5,500 miles in one month is a heck of a lot!

Its on 52k mile so done 8k since October. I reckon I will do 4k over there as only there for 10 days so will have a 54k miles car on return.

Its not saying overdue maintenance, merely book maintenance. Maybe because of a very high millage recently its thinking its going to do a big milage and premepts that by asking for a service early.

Sounds like you have a similar car to myself - 2012MY S80 D3.

Service interval is 12 months / 18,000 miles, whichever comes first, so you should be fine for quite a while yet. As per Billggski's comments, I suspect that they forgot to tell the car they serviced it last time around, hence it coming up early - I doubt one month of high mileage would have any impact on a service indicator - I do around 3K miles a month, with more mileage occasionally, and the reminder has only ever come up when approaching the 18K interval.

Its a great car

I'm just going to take it over to France in May and service it when its back and get new front tyres at the same time. Its now on 52k miles so only 8k since it was in. Another 4-5k and it'll be time and the fronts will which are on 3mm will be closer to 2mm so all in a days work.
