Default Stop start query

I can't remember when my car last auto stopped. I understand that it won't do it in really cold weather, but today I have done 100 plus miles (many on just sidelights and with the climate control off in case the battery needed a boost) and it hasn't auto stopped once.
Any one help?

I had a similar problem - cured by a software update - seems it was a known problem across a variety of engine types (mine being the mighty D2)

Look in 'My Car' and see if it says ''battery charging''.

Apart from the normal times when stop/start will not work,if the MAIN battery is low, or lower than a certain percentage, then stop/start will not kick in. Also as above a software update helps.

Hi,

I accept that, but the guys at MRG Volvo who have always been excellent in my opinion tell me that there is a known software issue & fix. I have no reason to doubt them as they fixed my problem that is similar to that described.

Cheers

Thanks Volvorocks. You were right. In My Car it did indeed say that stop start was not available either due to the battery charging or battery temp low. As it was about 7 degrees, I suspect that the battery is on its way out.
Surprised that the battery is going, but the car is over 3 years old and with 88,000 miles on.
I guess the stop start takes its toll on the battery.

It seems batteries in newer Volvos do not last as long as they used to. The stop/start uses the main battery to start up from stop, so could be the reason. As well as my stop start not always working (when it should) I also had a general low battery warning. Thing is though the car starts up from cold fine, each time, every time, even with the warning.

If the main cars battery drops below a calculated 72% charged then the stop start won't work,

The main issue with this is that the car will appear to start fine even on the coldest morning but it will be below threshold for the stop/start to work,

The battery counter can be reset and if its never been done then it might cure the problem, its not common practice for it to be reset unless customers have issues and it doesn't always help,

When was your last service? If it was prior to last December then, as per Rettopian's comments, you definitely have a software upgrade waiting to take place that will transform your Stop-Start system.

I also drive a 2012 D3 car and had the same symptoms as yourself whereby SS would never work, despite me doing a 150-mile commute every day. MRG had been told by Volvo back in 2013 that it was a known problem and they were working on a fix. Admittedly, it took Volvo over a year to get the software out in the end, but boy was it worth the wait - I've done something like 12,000 miles since and it's worked impeccably; only times it hasn't cut in are when the DPF is regenerating or I have the caravan connected - both of which are designed-in causes of SS not activating.

Autoexpress had a V60 D6 Plug in Hybrid as a long term test car for a while. The employeee with it complained about the stop-start function and was told that apparently long journeys do not charge the battery, IIRC it is only charged when braking/coasting and so will need round town traffic situations to charge it.

If you remember when Clarkson drove the I8 for Top Gear, it operated in a similar way!

Thanks for the input. Last service was Oct 2014 and I did report that I was not happy that stop/start was working correctly. My garage could not find anything amiss (they never can find anything that I report) and it seemed better after the service.

Next service is due at 90,000 so only a couple of thousand to go.

I will put the battery on charge overnight in case it is below 72%.

How can I reset the battery counter?
