I agree it is priced very cheap and I would wonder why. If you made contact ask why it's been priced the way it has, it could be innocent like a new car being ordered and a better deal was made with no p/x so the car is being listed at trade in price. I know my car is worth £5k as a trade in, a 2008 57 plate XC70 SE Geatronic in immaculate condition (wheels aside) with 154k on the clock so only £4k more for the car in the pics with the age/spec and I know some might not care but those are some rare expensive wheels and I really like them

If it were my car I'd be looking for about £12.5-14k for it but I'd have to tidy it up a little. I don't understand why the belts were done singularly and not with a service, seems a little nonsensical to me but trust your instinct of you do go and see it you could have a bargain

The vendor is near me. He offered to drive it to work one day this week which is even nearer. No big deal one would think.
Mentioned price to him, got 3 replies increasingly stroppy
1st - are you private or a trader ? (so what ?)
2nd - you can view it at my house but Im not taking it to work
me - is there something wrong with it ?
3rd - Look mate, if you're not sure if you can afford it then don't waste my time.

charming.
I now suspect something wrong else wouldnt be getting attitude.
Could be of course the car is fine but the owner isnt, bit like dogs. Obviously hes the sort of bloke Im not happy handing my dosh over to so I shant buy it.

draw yer own conclusions.

I've been in touch with the seller & am planning a trip there this weekend to take a look. If any good, I'll buy it: if not, I'll report back....

It may be a great car. Ive no idea. Im not handing my dosh over to him.
Do please report back either way. Take an expert with you, its a lot of dosh if faulty. Have some breakdoen cover.
The "Im not taking it to work" bit rings alarm bells to me.

I'm not defending the seller's response but having recently sold my P2 via Autotrader, it's generally not a good experience.

For every genuine enquiry there's 10 or more tossers asking "What'll you take for it" when they haven't even seen the vehicle or "I'll give you £x" (some derisory offer) again, without even seeing the car. On my ad I took a deposit very quickly after advertising it so put "Provisionally sold: held on deposit pending full payment on X date" and then got a stroppy email on the very day I had mentioned saying "well have you sold it or not - if you have say so and stop wasting everyone's time".

My reply was along the lines of "Really? Have you got nothing better to do with your life?"

The reality is that the world is full of rude tossers and keyboard warriors who have no manners and a bad attitude and they all seem to come out of the woodwork when one is selling a car.

The only time I have ever taken such a liberty is when looking for a P3. I found a really nice one in Swansea - I'm in Northampton and even then I phoned the guy, explained it was a long, long way to travel and that I was really sorry to ask without even seeing the car but given the distance involved, was he prepared to give me an indication of what kind of offer he was open to as it was currently a bit out of my budget. In fairness he was very reasonable and accommodating - perhaps picking up the phone and having a grown up, polite conversation helps as email can be very blunt.

Frustratingly, it has sold before I was able to get up to see it . It did have an aux belt/cambelt failure which is also why the alternator had been replaced at 103,000 miles, so maybe it was for the best.

Anyone else selling a decent XC70 for sensible money?

Whoa there, the cambelt failed?? Like snapped failed? That's an engine replacement easy, there's usually no getting away from that. Either that's BS, maybe even the whole advert is or the cars had another engine fitted hence so cheap.

Either way not a fun story

My XC is not for sale sorry...

That's a shame - and I'd be worried about a cam/aux failure. What damage was done to valves, head, pistons? If it was repaired, was it repaired well? Even if it was, how do you KNOW that?

Don't worry - I always find that these things are for the best, because the one you do end up with is the one you'll really be happy with. We've just bought a house, and after 2 houses fell through both of which we'd totally fallen in love with we ended up buying one that's better than either of them.
