1997 v40 light switch
does a 2000 v40 light switch fit a 1997 model? I have looked up on ebay and they have a different front and back.Have taken mine apart and got lights going but not dimmer or fog lights.Can anybody help as soon up for m o t.

A 97 will be a phase 1 and anything after late 99 will either be an inbetweeny phase 1.5 or phase 2, so on a 2000 it'll be P2, totally different I'm afraid, the later cars use a control module system (CEM) and the phase 1s don't, I'm pretty sure you're out of luck, even cars of the same phase but a couple of years apart have totally different wiring and therefore the switch, despite them looking identical.

It'll fit physically, but the pin configuration is radically different.
In this picture, Green V40 is a 1998 model (phase 1) and Blue V40 is a 1999 (phase 1.5). The outlines in red show where the differences exist. It's not impossible to do, but it's a complicated task. If you can procure the correct switch, you'll save a lot of hassle. Getting the wires out of the plugs non-destructively is frustratingly difficult, so moving the wires around really is a last resort. |
