Slight correction, I've checked woth Volvo today and they have confirmed the cambelt is 108k or 10 years.

Just thought I'd my experience...

I was originally quoted £870, the same as the price you get online from the Volvo service indicator online, however the dealer matched an independent specialist. Got it down to £650 for the whole thing (which also includes breakdown cover etc.). Worth haggling!

Considering that the auxiliary belt wasnt changed in the cars life... Go and change them all asap...

Letting alone the timming kit, Volvo should recommend replacing the auxiliary belts and tensioner too at this milleage...

Replace the water pump too...

Considering the snaped auxiliary belts problems I would opt for genuine Volvo spare parts...

Actually, it depends on the model year...

I note yours is pre-facelift, as was my last V60. They have a 12,500miles/1 year service interval and the belt is changed at 108,000 or 9 years (which of course do not quite tally!). My current D5 is face-lift and the service intervals are 18,000 miles/1 year, and I know (because I have a service plan) it is due its cam-belt change at 108,000/6 years.

I shall have it done then, regardless - it's only done about 45,000 miles so the chances of it getting to 108 in the next year and a half are negligible!

TBH, with cam-belts and the like, I wouldn't go beyond the recommended intervals, and I agree with what's been said that I'd use genuine Volvo parts (although I always try to do that anyway, so perhaps that's just me). Who actually does the work, though, is of course a different matter...

It is a pre facelift but a 215 engine as its MY 2012 and the volvo service history in the book is in the 18k service section.

Did the engine change post facelift (other than the 205 to 215)?

Sorry - perhaps I didn't put that very well since there are always strange combinations when it comes to Volvo face-lifting models!

The later models are 18,000/1 year service intervals, the older ones 12,500/1 year.

I know it seems odd because doubtless the belts are the same, but the rationale is that, on the hypothetical (usually) basis that you will do 18,000 miles in a year, 108,000 miles equates to 6 years. Hence on the later models the interval is shorter in calendar terms.

I know on the older models some Volvo dealers say 108,000 or 10 years, but others (such as mine) say 9 years. It's a bit of a lottery really because with 12,500 mile service intervals 108,000 miles it does not equate to either a round 9 or 10 years, but at 9 years on that hypothetical mileage you are already at 112,500, so on mileage overdue a change...

Whatever, personally I would never let the belt exceed the recommended interval, be that 108,000 miles or 6/9/10 years! If you are on an 18,000 mile service schedule then 6 years is the correct interval for you.
