Default VEA Starter failed. - big job?

Car had to be recovered as the starter burnt out after 2 starts in a couple of minutes (stalled in a snowdrift)

Anyone know if its a big job on the VEA and likely to be a stock part?

I know with starters the access is either easy or a nightmare depending on the layout and what else you need to strip down.

Just to gauge how long it may be residing at the dealers .

Sorry to hear this. Lucky you are still in warranty. They should provide a courtesy car (well my dealer would).

Thanks, Volvo on call provided a Golf GTI from Thrifty in a couple of hours, thats good for 5 days then I am at the mercy of the dealer.

I would like to think that as the 4 pot VEA is the core engine that they have starters in stock in the UK.

I’m an Alfa guy myself and they have 2 types of car, ones where the starters are easy, others where the alternators are easy. Never both on the same car though! One always needs subframes unbolted and jacked, PAS pipes removed, exhausts dropped etc. !

It will be going to the recently relocated Taggarts in Glasgow, reasonably large place, easily the largest in the West of Scotland, so hopefully have the resources and can order one in quickly.

Thanks mate, I wouldn’t expect them to have labour on it tomorrow anyway, but hopefully if they can diagnose (wouldn’t start with booster pack, tow started easily, wouldn’t restsart...burning smell!) and order it in for tuesday/weds that would be ideal.

It would be interesting to hear of any other D4 VEAs (with the obligatory stop-start) who have had failed starters.
Do you do a lot of stop-start ?

Not any more than average I would have thought, I’m on 45,000 miles, it failed after a couple of stalls and restarts in a snowdrift, 3 or 4 in a few minutes.

It always starts instantly, it wasn’t that the starter was running for a long period.

Assuming of course thats what the issue is. It wont crank on the button but started instantly when towed by the recovery agent.
