Default Amber Engine Check Warning Light

the amber engine check warning light came on yesterday on start up and stayed on.

I believe this is related to emissions ?

car is three years old in April and 13500 miles.

the EGR fix has not been done on it and I mentioned that to the dealer yesterday when I phoned to report the fault.

he checked the chassis number on his system and said there was no work outstanding and perhaps my chassis number is outwith the faulty batch.

booked in next week for investigation.

would appreciate thoughts/comments from you guys.

Iain

If your EGR is going to clog I'd put money on it being at this time of year.
With your low mileage make sure it gets done, drive around in ECO mode if need be and do lots of short trips, actually just do a few short trips, just space them apart.

It could also be the oxygen sensor sooted up. I had this done twice now at 62k and 74k. Apparently it's a 'known issue' and Volvo are supposed to be working on a fix. It's not covered out-of-warranty and under these circumstances would be a £100 job.
I would ask for a printout of the 'service actions' for your car.

I was thinking that. Three strikes and I'm going to raise it with VUK. One more chance.
In fairness, my dealer told me they had seen a significant rise in oxygen sensor sooting as the ambient temperatures dropped and (sort of) implied they might not charge for this job as they wanted to keep customer goodwill.

OK, here's my translation.
EGR valve covered for five years (or 999,999 miles).
EGR cooler covered for three years (or 999,999 miles).
EGR valve oscillat. covered for three years (or 999,999 miles).
'Good Will' covered for 15 years. Not sure exactly what this includes !

The oxygen sensor issue is not currently listed as a service action, hence it is only covered by the normal (or any extended) warranty.
All I know is what the service advisor told me. Something along the lines of "Volvo know there is an issue with oxygen sensor sooting and are working on a fix". If this is really the case, I'm surprised this problem is not listed as a service action.
