The national speed limit will be changed from 90kph to 80kph. Hope you all have cruise control and get the GPS updated.

In its self a little irritating but combine with the recent whole hearted embracing of speed cameras and a breath taking sliding scale for spot fines.

The French treasury loves Le Mans, well the motorway from Calais to Le Mans.

Have fun
Why not foil the 'Bold Gendarmes' by using the Newhaven Dieppe ferry? Then a pleasant drive down the N138, Which is being re.designated to D338,Now the motorway is open (A28). A very pleasant place to stop along the way, between Alecon and Le Mans is Beaumont- Sur- Sarthe,The 'Bentley Boys' use this as a watering hole, on the main drag through town you will find The Cafe/Restaurant La Barque.you can sit sipping your Citron Presse and watch some interesting cars go by. Wish I was going too!!!Enjoy!!

P.S There is a nice camp site there,if you want to stay away from the Noisy? ones near the circuit, and drive in.

Regards,Keith. Sorry, New limit does not apply to 'A' roads. rest of comments still apply.K

Nice to have got the timing of this years trip spot on. Arrive back in the UK on 1st July.

Should all have been settled one way or the other by next year.

I have just looked at diesel prices in France and they seem to have shot up by about 15% from last year with supermarkets charging €1.44 per litre compared with €1.24 last year. Exchange rate is about the same and this years price is almost the same as in the UK.

Know most of that route well but we always used to go Portsmouth Caen out & St Malo Portsmouth back.

If you don’t speed you won’t get a fine. Can never understand why people get annoyed with the enforcement of speed limits, it’s probably to easiest law to avoid breaking.

Another revenue generator is the clean air permit
I don’t see how trying to pusuade people driving into times to improve the air quality is a revenue generator. Another charge easily avoided.

I don't think that's the way the thread started It was more a heads up for people venturing to France this year.

Around the Le-Mans weekends it's been known for Years (I'm talking as far back as 1989 here) that the French Police tend to target Brits heading to Le-Mans quite heavily whilst Jean & Pierre merrily drive their knackered Renaults without the bother.

I remember one year (1992 maybe) the Police set up a checkpoint just outside -Beaumont to check all the Brits had the pre-requisite items for driving on the French roads & running a mini-bus back to the town to enable those stopped to get the money from the back to pay the on-the-spot fines.

If stopping to camp(I've used Beaumont) then another great one which if you like the sun as Beaumont is very shaded is Fresney sur Sarthe. It has a pool, there's pitches by the river and a canoe/kayak company which will drop you set distances up the river to pootle down, and is similarly priced.
