Volvo achilles heel - ALARMS

So, Im fed up of chasing alrms - it went off again last nigth at 1am waking up the neighbourhood then again at 4am

Every volvo ive owned has had alarm problems, the last one i ripped the damn thing out. This newer mk3 though, Im considering just replacing it

IS this the easiest way to get around this?? im think of downgrading to a £50 alarm that takes zero effort to fit or byass (or rip out if needs be!) and turn off internal sensors (i dont care - its not a house!)

Or pay someone to disarm it (or the alarm siren).

OR i go the other way and save on insurance by fittign a new alarm with tracker - has anyone done that? Does it save on insurance?

I used to have this years ago on a 2000 C70. At the time, there were many threads on here for this model and the alarm going off randomly.

It turned out that it was something to do with the positioning of something and not to leave metal e.g. coins in the ash tray or coin holder. This cured the issue for me.

My C70 T5 had an alarm that kept going off.

I took the coins out of the ashtray - never had an issue after that.

yeah the ash-tray thing isnt appicable on the mk3.

i have had it set off by the mosquitos that got int he car however the biggy is the boot. If it doesnt quite latch, it wil lset off (i have the automatic boot).

it may be the previous owner didn tuse the boot much but i sue it all the time - since sprayign it with some gear oil it hasnt had a problem since.

I have found a guy though who will take away my worries when i park up for a week to go away on business by disabling it for £55 per hour.

Mine was doing the same, was the battery in the alarm siren module. Replaced it ('sealed' unit, but is DIY-able) & it lasted about 10 months before starting to do it again. Ended up replacing the alarm siren module, 160 quid from a dealer & fitted it myself about 6 months ago. Been fine since.
