Is VIDA up and running?
Has the Dice worked before? What machine OS are you running on and how much RAM is there? Are any lights working on the Dice ? A few of us had the systems sit down a few months back because the licence date needed advancing from 31/12/17 and new patches were applied to VIDA. |

I'm getting flashing lights at the top and bottom on the dice but nothing coming up on the screen.
I've had to go the virtual machine route as my daughter's win pro set up is sacrosanct as she uses it for editing videos associated with her work in tv production so it's more than my life's worth to screw that up. The virtual machine is installed on a hdd and the computer it runs off has 8gb ram and 1Tb hard drive on win 10. When the virtual machine is running it indicates that only 2gb of ram are being used. I'm getting more frustrated by the minute. BTW when I installed the programme disc on my daughter's laptop, win7 pro, I had the same problems.

Sounds like the communication unit may not be the issue.
When VIDA installs are you getting start icons for it. What happens when you click on them. Are there any indications in the status bar that it's looking for online updates. On W7 it can take a few minutes to get up and running. |

I assume that you're running it inside Oracle's VirtualBox.
Check pass trough settings for USB ports etc. It may be that the main (daughters) system takes over control of dice and Virtual has no comms to it.

Sorry, just let me clarify, daughter's machine is several years old and is out of bounds to me, the Windows 10 machine I am using has 8 Gb ram and 1 Tb memory, in spite of that the virtual machine is loaded on to a separate 500Gb hard drive, which has no other programmes or files loaded into it, I cleared all those on to a 64Gb flash stick.
I'll have another look at it tonight but one of the problems is it is my son's car and he's on shift work so I can't try it out during the evenings at present and I have other issues to consider during daytime. Many thanks for all your responses by the way.

Sorry, but now I'm at lost as to what is your "virtual machine"
It certainly doesn't sound like one.

Thomas, virtual machine is a bunch of software that has been set up to operate as a computer running windows 7 pro, volvo vida needs this operating system to run as it hasn't been updated to use later releases of windows operating systems. The virtual machine operates on the back of a computer running a different operating system, in my case win 10.
Rather than soak up 62 Gb of memory from the computer C drive it has been loaded onto a portable hard drive that, theoretically, can operate on any windows 10 laptop that allows virtuality. It makes the setting up a trifle more complex but it doesn't get to screw up the only win 7 pro dedicated computer in our household, viz my daughter's which she has banned me from using. One of the big issues with the volvo vida is the length of time it takes to power up, this may be one of the issues that is screwing me though I have to say that I'm not convinced that it is.

Uhh.. I feel like I was kicked where it hurts
I didn't know that win10 allows virtualisation by itself. Normally I would expect a separate program (or as they're called these days- app) to do the job. VirtualBox being example. Virtual drive file stored anywhere, and I wouldn't expect it to he bigger tgan 7-8 GB at most, if variable size (size per demand) used. The program/app still needs to be installed on C drive. Thus- your description does sound strange to me. But hey-ho... I live in a different (and much simpler) world of Linux. VMBox+ winXP+ Vida, I'm set, if something goes wrong, I have only myself to blame, and given some time, I'll find a workaround. And if anyone wonders- yes, I do fight arms and legs when it comes to using a micro&soft product, I'll do it only if really really pressed, and as for now the only 2 reasons for that xp are Vida and a CCTV plugin for certain system- both unavailable for Linux. Except that my windows life ended when vista was released, since that I don't want to hear, I don't want to know.

Have you got vehicle ignition in position 2? Is your batttery fully charged?i have had trouble connecting in the past if battery has been slightly drained. Also I seem to be able to wake DICE up by clicking on the software tab in VIDA. Not sure why but it often works.
