Mine doesn't behave in the way the OP describes. Off the top of my head I can't recall the sequence I use as it's just second nature. I'll need to check it next time.

As for multiple stop/starts, the system will temporarily inhibit stop/start if there are too many of them within a particular time interval.

Weirdly, arriving at work, I didn’t do anything any different yet it didn’t do it. The engine stopped and remained off whilst I moved to Park.

Not sure if that’s a good thing or the inconsistency bothers me more!!!

I had a software update 2 weeks ago. Now stop start is super sensitive. Feathering brakes now no longer works. It cuts when still over 5mph. Also it's only possible to turn off each trip. It turns the engine off at every stop, even moving 6 feet at a time. Return to BMW - Can't wait for the day. This is a long way off being a premium motor.

Well, let it carry on. If it damaged the car, the computer would inhibit it.

Default Swap

Swap for BMW that cuts out mid-journey and catches fire when parked

I always turn off stop start as soon as I get in my car (MERC) as the stop start annoys me, but more so the sail mode I think border line grey area legal / illegal, and dam right dangerous.

Yeah.. me too! This is the first car I have which comes with start/stop and it really tensed me up on a busy roundabout when I was about to accelerate and the start/stop kicks in

However, mine doesn't stop the engine while "coasting". Does MERC do that?

They could make it easier to switch off then instead of scrolling and picking from a mass of options. Maybe a big button in the middle of the steering wheel.

Maybe all you haters should accept that stop start is here to stay. Live with it, learn to love it and then just forget you even have it like millions of other drivers do. It’s helping to improve the environment and even save you a little money.

Yep, I'm pretty used to it now. It got a lot better when I realised that I could flip the gear shift over to manual just before stopping if I could see that traffic was about to pull way again. Once stopped going back to drive doesn't trigger start/stop (I think you need to go above 6mph or so for it to be re-enabled).
