BMWs have well documented inlet manifolds which have variable intakes that detach and write the engine off.
They also have timing chains that become destroyed. And cracking rear subframes, and rob bearing issues. And Vanos has been a costly problem for decades. People know this and pay through the nose for the badge on the front 🤣. I won’t pay to have a fitted and functioning sub system, neither would many on here. But people woll B*tch and moan but ultimately pay up! More fool them!!! |

Having worked in the trade before not BMW though you'd be surprised who the best brands are, if anything Opel have always been the German brand to pick, I've had many Vauxhall's in my time and they were the most reliable thing I could find, never spent much on them at all and if I had ever been stuck for one in normal times a Ford would've been next up, It's all marketing basically, the Gerries all get the best press because the best customer always will, this then makes people want even harder, I selected the S90 on rareness which I noticed had many pedestrians looking at it as I wafted by but I also selected it based on how it was constructed which imo was tank like, ok she was heavier and the lighter cars might do another few mpg's but at the end of the day flimsy always breaks easily, the car wasn't perfect but it did feel enjoyable to be in. |

Is this based on 36 months typical lease /pcp x £15 = £540 ?
Seems like an awful lot of money for heated seats? We are clearly going back to the 1970s and renting but never owning. |

I've had several Vauxhalls and they've always served me well. I never found a Vauxhall dealer worth their salt though.

Everybody is getting bent out of shape about this subscription model, but it's just another option for customers to pay for the extras they want on their car.
You still have the option to pay a one off fee, just like you do now, absolutely no difference. "BMW drivers can now have heated front seats to order, which is available permanently for £350, for three years for £250, an annual subscription of £150 or monthly for £15." Someone at BMW has sat down with a big calculator, and worked out, that it's more cost effective to send all the cars out the door, with all the options, than to tailor the cars to customers orders, presumably with a calculated take up rate of the options to potentially increase profits. If you're leasing the car, you can subscribe for your lease period and save some money. As a monthly subscription is available, you can presumably subscribe during the winter months for the heated options, and cancel your subscription during the summer. Maybe you're taking your car on a driving holiday, so you take up 'driving assistance plus' package, for the month ? etc etc.. It also means anyone buying a second hand car, can buy any spec they want and then just buy or subscribe to the options they want, no hunting about for the options you want on your car. It makes for a great headline, but in reality I don't see what the outrage is about. |

..and there's me still hacked off at Volvo for wanting me to pay for them to "optimise" my engines, back to the original spec they should all have been made to in the first place.... Cheers Bob |

I bought a new BMW once, it was a 320 Touring in about 1992. I was being posted to Germany and thought I'd treat myself to a smart new tax-free car. I ordered it over the telephone (no internet in those days) and flew over to London a few weeks later to collect. BMW tax-free sales were all dealt with by a very smart showroom in Park Lane. The suited salesman greeted me and showed me the motor car - I asked him where was the radio... you can probably guess the rest. BMW didn't fit radios as standard and I hadn't asked for one; what complete bunkum, the previous two new cars I'd bought (both Mazdas) came with radios (and lots of other stuff) as standard. Later I noticed the motor car only had electric windows in the front, and there had been lots of skimping all around. I never took to that car, I drove it for 2 years in Germany but then sold it as soon as I returned to the UK (for a good profit - there is a huge but inexplicable kudos attached to the BMW badge amongst Brits). Never again, BMW! I see the company is up to the same tricks, so I agree with you OP: Why on earth would anyone subscribe to this? :-)
