if it works then it will be far supperior to our single piston calipers, but if not then all i have to do is change discs and remanufacture new brackets, it's all trial and error, if it does work then i will be giving all the details away on here Gary,

Wow, Not much room for error.
Mega expensive disks for a poor life span. Thanks for finding out for me Russ, I appreciate that. I am now wondering what the minimum "I can" safely go to as I believe it would be crazy to replace my disks just yet as they still look new! Humm...... Patrick

Hi Patrick i would continue with the Ap discs they will outlast any other type and you still have a way to go to wear them out just keep an eye on them.

Mine were still working resonably well- it was just the noise, I knew something wasn't quite right.
Keep going until you feel they are not right. |

The discs were 28mm thick on my AP kit when new and the documentation says to change them at 27mm. This in my view is a cheeky way of selling more brake discs. My great mathematical ability tells me that is 1/2 mm wear on each side of the disc. Take a look at a few cars in a car park or in the street. I bet many have at least a 1mm lip on the disc. I'd change the discs when they are about 25mm thick which should equate to a mileage of around 60k miles.

A question for Gary (SIAMBLUE): what benefit will your proposed kit offer over the standard Volvo brake set if you are using the standard sized discs?

"The type of calipers and brackets being used for this brake conversion should give me superior uniform pad pressure to the standard discs as opposed to the original sliding caliper design, as they will/should eliminate pad cocking which causes hot spots/isolated heat which cannot escape quick enough. If excessive heat is accepted as the enemy then this mod should give better brake feel through the pedal and be more efficient especially under hard braking which is what I’m looking for, brake fluid type and condition accepted"
