Default Sat Nav Retro Fit

Has anyone had the after market dealer fit (Garmin?) unit installed and what is it like?

Views anyone and any idea what the cost is as can't find it on Volvo's web site.

Cheers

I have fitted the Garmin kit and I am very pleased with it. The sat nav kit worked out at £261.64 and TMC kit £52.97 including vat at 17.5%. Have a word with Simon at FRF Motors (Swansea). He's a great guy to deal with and very helpful. If you intend to DIY make sure you have a good set of trim removal tools as some of the trim can damage easily.

Thanks, I called my dealer and they are fitting these for £399 all in on a special offer.
As I have £250 of Volvo vouchers to spend it's a steal at £149 - I'm happy!

Does the audio come through/mute the sound system OK? They also tell me its removable?

Thanks,

Ian.

Make sure it includes the TMC kit, it is very useful. I have tuned the FM output from the Garmin to preset zero on my radio and it works well although there is a bit of white noise in between instructions. Not sure whether you can tune it to a transmitted station or not, perhaps someone else with the system might know. The Garmin is removeable and comes with a pouch to protect it. I think it is a very good deal at £399 fitted.

Interesting - there have been many posts on here where people have complained about the TMC on the integrated satnav, and yet it is acceptable on the Garmin.

Do we have double standards appearing here

Somethings are more acceptable at £399 than at £1500+!

Totally agree, no way I was going to pay the integrated system price, it's a rip off when you look at the actual cost of the equipment.

One advantage with the dealer fit Garmin is it's removable and even tells you where you left the car!

Cant recall the exact price but it was nowhere near £1500 for the satnav - at least it wasn't on my car.

Assuming that I recall correctly it came out around £650 as it was included in the premium pack and as I wanted the other parts it made sense. The other parts left around £650 for the cost of the satnav, and when you look at this way it is not an expensive option given the full integration and the free updates

Is that price for the new Garmin 3790 or the older 765 model? I noticed in the new brochure they have the newer sexier Ipod lookalike.
