Default V70 d5 185bhp 2006 please help this frustrated engineer

Hi all

New to forum, bought myself a 185bhp d5 2006 AWD estate


So here goes

The faults/codes are
Play in steering
PDC issues (has front and rear)
Needed a service
Output signal 5th injector faulty
Boost pressure fault signal
Atmospheric pressure fault signal
Swirl flap actuator code

What I have done
Steering inner ends
Full service
Swirl flap Actuator repair and adapt values

Front bumper off new sensor for PDC
Rear bumper Tormorow as showing needs a sensor too for PDC

Leaves me injector, boost and atmospheric all saying faulty signal

The car runs well then goes into limp mode with no boost this is occasionally and beside that runs I would say well

I believe the injector is a separate issue to the boost and atmospheric. The latter 2 being the cause of limp mode
so fitted a genuine MAP sensor which goes into the Intercooler
Codes and fault remain
Although the boost reading is slightly higher with the engine off than with the original map sensor

I've checked the boost controller and cleaned it
Checked the vac lines to the engine mounts, cooler appears ok too. Turbo seems to spool well and plenty power except when in limp of course

So leaves me to believe that the atmospheric sensor is at fault which is located within the ECU?

Please help guys this is frustrating I've tried using live data
Atmospheric is at 996 which to me is actually vacuum and so maybe wrong

Can get you any details you may need and am not too shabby with the spanners or a meter. My scanner is not Vida although is very good on almost anything

The MAP sensor should read the same as the Atmospheric sensor with the engine off, the Atmospheric sensor is in the ECU,
is the MAP sensor reading the same as true outside air Atmospheric reading,
use accuweather for the reading or a weather station ,
The ECU uses its built in Atmospheric sensor to compere against the map sensor,
so if the Atmospheric sensor is not reading the same as a weather app/station
that is the problem,
what obd reader are you using to read Atmospheric data,
have a look where the ecu is and see if there are any breathers that are blocked,

Be careful about using air pressure data from a weather forecast site as for meteorological purposes air pressure readings are always reduced to a mean sea level pressure. Therefore the pressure your car reads may be very different from that reported on a weather site, especially in a city like Sheffield where you'll get significantly different values even between down in the city and at the top of the surrounding hills etc. At Emsworth, for example, the difference will usually be small.

Hi yes my reading is very very close to the weather station / app reading, but I am nearly at sea level,
but it should give him a good idea , as both of his sensors are not matching Data readings,

You checked the vac lines to the mounts but have you checked the actual mounts??? Big tip there

The vac mounts will not make any difference to the turbo/boost reading/limp mode,

You need a new boost sensor in the intercooler outlet stub , left side of car low down ..

The injector will need new wiring terminals which volvo sell, if it still occurs a new injector needed but the terminals usually work ...

hi the car has had a new MAP/boost sensor.
this is what i changed first.
its the atmospheric reading that is the odd ball

anyone know who can repair the ECU or where to get a known working one.

are they plug and play

thanks guys, for your input. you all thought on same lines as me.

yes i believe on the injector your correct there too. terminals dry, if not injector replace.

oh quick question where is the ECU on the car, i thought it was drivers side of engine bay, its a RHD. confused i just see a PS reservoir and a space thats empty. thanks.
