2007 Volvo S60 T5 Se Sport
Hi all,
My trusty BSR St3 S60 T5 Se Sport decided that it no longer wanted any gears two weekends ago as the M66 box packed up. I'm the 2nd owner from new and have owned this for 13 years and as I am a vehicle tech and inspector the car wanted for nothing. I even changed the gearbox oil to a higher spec (recommended By Opie Oils) when I fitted the St3 BSR tune. This car has covered 247'000 miles and the engine is still spot on as is the rest of the car except the gearbox now. It uses no oil and that K24 Turbo is as sweet as she was 13 years ago. I have enough bills, invoices and service history to take up a library and it's old MOT history only has advisories for tyres and shocks which are also recent (unsurprisingly being a T5 with almost 500nm of torque). Oh and I have also obtained in a wooden crate a brand spanking new factory M66 gearbox Now here is the question I pose to you all for some consideration: 1. Do I fit the new M66 box and keep her for the next 13 years? 2. Or do I sell her as a repairable with the factory new M66 gearbox and buy myself the later S60 2.0 T5 with an 8 speed Aisin Warner gearbox that I have been looking at in Japan? I am not bothered about buying cars from Japan as I have been doing that on/off for twenty years. However having been out of the workshop for 16 years I have no in depth knowledge of these later VEA engines, however I have heard horror stories of high engine oil consumption and that is something that I dont want. I would rather have my new M66 box fitted with a new flywheel and clutch than spend 6k on a newer 2014 plate S60 T5 only to have oil consumption issues. Any advice at this stage I would be most greatful for. Many thanks Mark Last edited by MMT5; Mar 7th, 2024 at 12:13. |

Fit the new gearbox, continue to maintain the car properly and it'll last as long as you want it to. Seems like a no brainer to me 👍🏻
