Default Instrument Cluster Flickering

Hi All,

Quick question for someone in the know, I have just noticed that the background lights on my instrument cluster flicker slightly when the indicator is on. The rest of the time its fine.

The lights don't go out, just dim slighting and pulse with the indicator relay clicking.

Is this normal? Or is failure of something imminent?

Thanks,

My p1 did it, my P2 t4 does it, and the newly acquired P2 2.0 SE also does it, I've meant to ask this several times but never remember to, although I'm guessing it's normal as all 3 of mine do it.

It does sound reassuring if all yours have done it. Let’s see if anyone else confirms. It does just sound like a quirky part of the car thankfully.

I can confirm none of mine did. Not the 1600. Not the P1.5 donor. Nor the T4.

My P1 does this too. Along with floppy indicator and wiper stalks, wiper arm scraping on the bonnet and copious amounts of rust, I think it's just an X40 quirk.

Rats! I spotted yesterday, my gauge illumination does indeed pulse to the beat of the indicators. Dammit. That's gonna bug me now.

I've just swapped the smaller Bosch 027 battery the car came with for the nearly new 096 varta one off the caravan so it gets some use and doesn't die off over the winter (I like the added piece of mind of the 110 amp higher CCA) and while it still flickers ever so slightly it has lessened, nowhere near as noticeable as it was.
