if spongy when depressed it could be one of the following

There could be air in the hydraulic system

Deteriorated flexible rubber brake hose

Master cylinder mounting nuts lose

Faulty master cylinder

Did you resolve this issue ?
Suffering the same on my v70 so seeing whats been successful before I start a new thread.
