Just saw the latest Which Car Guide. The XC60 does not get ranked for some reason (perhaps because it is neither a compact or large SUV). The V60 is ranked and although there are some favourable comments, the D4 and associated issues must be a major contributor to it being at the bottom of the pile for reliability ( for the cars listed)!

Less than 3-weeks since the last Engine Check Light incident and it is back on again! Fast losing faith. BTW can anyone tell me if this check light does change colour between amber (warning) and red (critical) with all display types as I am colour blind. The service desk always ask what colour it is.

I have the adaptive digital display which I think just shows one colour of check light and then the "Turtle" appears if the fault is serious?

I don't know if it is of any interest but someone told me yesterday that there are some new technology glasses available from the USA that allow colour blind people to see in colour. They were ordering some as a present for someone.

They are specially made to your individual spec and require you to get a certain set of tests done by an optician, but the results are astounding from what they were telling me. They are quite expensive as well they told me.

This looks like them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgspFTNDkOs

Hmm, I can't remember! Other than the fact that the turtle doesn't necessarily mean that the fault is critical. It's just a warning of reduced engine power. I never had a red 'stop as soon as possible' warning for the EGR / Oxy sensor issues, only ever amber. We kept driving and, although it wasn't great because the revs topped at about 2.3k rpm, it was okay until the time came for the appointment with the dealer.

My dealer sent through the warranty repair paperwork to me yesterday. I asked for it so that I can show it to whoever might choose to buy my XC60 when we sell it in January 2017. I think that's an important piece of paper and, if you haven't got it, I would recommend you get it asap after the work is completed and the fault is rectified.

FWIW, our car has been fine since the fix and I am hopeful that, other than the occasional oxygen sensor issue, that's the end of the EGR problems. It continues to pull properly too, thank goodness!

Have a nice day people. Sunshine across the whole of the U.K. today, as I whizz through the scenic Borders countryside on this single track train to Edinburgh.

Currently looking at a 2013 V60 D4, would the EGR be on a warranty replacement even on a car this age?
I see in the posts Volvo have recolonised the issue and have manufactured a updated EGR.

That could be the 5 cylinder D4 in a 2013 which has no problems like this .

It's only D4 Euro 6 VEA 4 cylinder engines in FWD car that have been affected and require the new EGR fix. Pretty sure Volvo will sort it if it hasn't been done already.

No Euro 5 D4 engines with 5 cylinders have been affected, or any cars with AWD.

D4 is a power output and not an engine type. No use looking at the D type without knowledge of the car it is in. You need to post more info on the engine for a definitive answer.

Wasn't it the 2014.5 model, which would be badge xx63 when they introduced the VEA Engine? If this is a xx13 or earlier car then it as the available with the VEA engine, as suggested earlier.

I went through this with Nigel Day a while ago and as I remember there were no xx13 plate VEA engine cars that I could find in the UK. Only a few xx04 plate cars and mostly 64 plate cars. All VEA engine cars were defined as MY 2015 by Volvo UK. The business lease department put out an early pre production circular dated MY 2014.5 though in 2013.

There is a press release from September 2013 announcing the VEA engine launch. This was followed by the MY14.5 'release' some 6 months after the MY14 facelift. It is obvious the VEA engine was not ready in time for the facelift - and the EGR problems may suggest the VEA launch was rushed even for MY14.5. What we don't know for certain is when the MY14.5 VEA stock first appeared at the dealers.
