Coming a bit late to this but back in 2013, my 2011 V60 D3 163bhp had the same error code 'P140700 EGR no flow' fault with a check engine light, while it was still under warranty.
It took the main dealer 3 visits to sort it out - they also changed the entire EGR valve for a new assembly and it didn't fix the problem. It turned out the problem was actually one of the DPF pressure sensors that had failed. These sensors log the pressure drop across the DPF which indicates the soot level in the DPF. The dealer could not identify this straight away because, bizarrely, there is no specific diagnostic code for failed DPF sensors (this is what the head technician at the dealer told me). A problem with these sensors just gives an EGR-related code. The dealer only found it by robbing a sensor from a new car in the showroom and swapping it onto mine. |

Hello, i am looking to buy XC60 D4, 2015 and newer....
Now i see that theese type of engines have a lot of errors regarding EGR... Did Volvo ever solve this problems? I do not want to buy a car and spend time in service more than on the road Are D5 engines affected by this problems? I read over 100 pages of this thread but i see that there is no definitive fix for this problem... |

my feelings are that the EGR issues related to the D4 VEA engine are not resolved.
from my own experience, and reading as much information as I can find, it seems to be trial and error to attempt to fix this design issue. the main components in question are the EGR valve, the EGR cooler and the associated pipework. the D5 engine does not have these issues. Iain

The latest 'fix' seems to be working at the moment for the first generation of VEA D4 engines.
However, Volvo has solved the problem in another way: the new D4 engines now use AdBlue (in common with most other turbodiesel engines). |

I am not aware of anyone who has had the latest fix that has then had further issues (me included - I am approaching 100k miles and mine was fixed at 45k). If you are buying second hand then you need to be sure that the EGR has the latest fix - Volvo dealers should be well up to speed on this, but everyone else is much less likely to be aware. I would suggest getting written confirmation before handing over cash.
