Default Airbag reinstallation

Hi all,

As per my other thread I now have my horn working but am now stuck with air bag reinstallation because no matter what I do, I get the SRS light on the dash constantly.

The attached picture shows what I'm faced with. I've aligned the bag up on the wheel and connected the green tab into the back of the airbag but the SRS light just stays lit so consequently I can't go for MOT! And I can't find a way to reset the light as I don't seem to have the diagnostics in the engine bay as I've read on other threads so I'm at a total loss what to do.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks
James

Oh dear ... I haven't the faintest. However I suspect that your car has OBD 2 and not the 'little black box' of OBD1 in the engine bay. For OBD2 you need a reader that plugs into a socket which I believe may be in or near the central arm rest/box to the left of the driver's arm!

Just to ckeck, and save it being everyones 1st question, i'm asssuming you have tried disconecting the battery and leaving it a hr or so to reset the computers.

And are you reinstalling the original airbag, or is it a different one?

I used my brother's code reader yesterday, it's a Delphi 105 and works great with my 1997 940. We used it to reset the abs light as it found the rear diff sensor was playing up. Quick clean and it's been fine.
I didn't get chance to reset the alarm control module as I forgot my uncoded fob but it looks like it can clear the memory on the control module too.

Maybe worth a stab...

Yes tried disconnecting battery overnight and it doesn't rectify it. Its the original airbag. I literally took it off, jiggled a few wires to get the horn to work and reconnected it. I'm not sure what Is meant on the ribbon about three turns left or right but as there is only one lead to reconnect I'm not sure you can do it wrong?

I was under the assumption that obd2 readers wouldn't work on the 940 and you needed a homemade reader?

This is the ribbon I have but I'm not sure I understand what the three turns refers too

On the back of the airbag itself is there anything that you need to align or moves into a central position before fitting? The wheels need to be straight ahead, presume steering wheel as well if took it off and my guess the rear of the airbag must have some kind of alignment to the interior of the steering wheel. Seems needs to be dead ahead.

I presume you also bolted/ fixed it back into position? The nice clean shiny mounts a possible earth for the airbag?

Could you photo the back of the airbag?

Good luck.

James

Throw the airbag away, cut the cable for the SRS dash light and bridge it to the low washer fluid light, so it extinguishes after starting the engine Sorted!

Cheers

Fine until you need it in an accident. We are talking about a safety system here not a troublesome engine management light. Not to mention the fact that you are then voiding your insurance.
