Anyone had a fuel pump go on them?
Hi gang,
My daughter will be leaving us here in Toronto for gig in Sarasota FL at the end of the summer and she will be taking my 2003 V40 with her. While it does have a fair amount of mileage on it (200k), it still runs really well and I’ve taken very good care of it. I’m racking my brain thinking of whether I should proactively replace anything for her that might cause her grief and two items come to mind (both are originals) the fuel pump and the radiator. Has anyone had a fuel pump go on them? That’s one that I’m most nervous about. The rad is the other item I’m hesitating on. Any comments are welcome.

Tbh if it aint broke, dont fix it. You could well meaningly try and improve things but end up with teething problems rendering the car unreliable.
Is there any reason you feel these items are likely to fail or are failing? |

As for the rad, the bottom of it seems to be a be banged up (no leaks) and when I last replaced the upper hose the plastic connection that allows upper hose to fasten onto radiator was quite brittle and a 1" triangle actually broke off. Again, no leaks but... Thank you for the reply.

Rather than worry yourselves unnecessarily, I'm sure you'll be keeping a close eye over everything prior to the trip, would it be wiser to invest in some additional breakdown assistance/insurance to cover such an event?

Reinforce the clip with a cable tie or something, buy a can of K-seal and put it in boot/trunk (dunno what you call it over there), that way unless radiator literally comes apart, she's covered. K-seal is bloody good stuff, put it in, top up coolant, drive 10-20 mins, done. My radiator in my old car sprung quite a heavy leak 4 years ago, put Kseal in as a 'stop me being stranded until I can afford a radiator' fix, it hasnt had a radiator or p1ssed anything out anywhere (I still own it).
