Default Steering/wheels Judder

On reversing in my 940 estate on full lock it feels as if it is dragging one of the tyres.
It does this on full lock whilst going forward to a lesser extent though.
It did this on my last 940 saloon but it wasn't as bad.
Is this a fault or how they all are?

Thanks
SC

It's how they are. They have such a good lock it drags the wheels when going backwards. I noticed my one doing it outside my house turning round.

I've noticed when my 740 is on full lock, i hear a grumbling as if im driving on loose shifting gravel/stones like on some driveways..its like thud-thud grumble thud etc.. i thought i might of been my antiroll bar bushes since they do need changing, but i'm not too sure...

Cool

You'll always get a little bit of judder through the power steering, when on full lock, as the pressure builds up on the P/S pump.

That said, it shouldn't be excessive. I'd check my belt and fluid levels. Also remember that if you overfill the P/S reservoir, it can lead to big problems like blown seals. It should only be filled up to the recommended level.

Thing to do is ease the pressure on the pump by just letting the wheel back slightly whilst turning. That will probably release enough pressure to eliminate 'the noises'.

Keeping an car with P/S on full lock for any length of time isn't a good idea.

About keeping the powersteering on full lock, its not good for it, does that include when the car engine isnt running, e.i parked up? i parked mine on full lock for the full day so i could work on some rust patches in the wheel arches in my car

Default 940 Steering

How is it you guys know the answers to my questions before I ask them? My 940 does this too, and I was starting to get worried about it......hooray, another "problem" that I don't have to fix! Thanks all

It could be a sign that the bushings connecting the front suspension components are worn. My tires scrabbled on the ground before I polybushed my car, and afterwards I had no problems.

Sean

I have to agree with Chris, check your bushes and bottom ball joints for wear. The scrubbing on lock reversing is a tell tale sign.

Yeh my 740s and 940s did this but the turning circle was brilliant on them, you didn't feel like you were in a big car when in a carpark or making tight turns.

My S60 feels like a lorry, its turning circle is worse than a transit van?
