So well woth my while de-badging and not hanging up my keys by the front door.

Thanks for your input, it's good (in a way) to hear some bad experiences to balance this thread out. I can imagine you were spitting feathers. I guess the worthless oiks were never found...

Yes. They're stolen for specific jobs. Quite easy to get around the security, have a cavernous boot to stash the loot in and they shift. What more could you want from a getaway car? Mine was the target last year, but the scrotes were disturbed. Same night a cash machine was nicked and loaded into another car. Coincidence? Maybe.

Actually the keys were on the coffee table in the lounge. The scum bags went round the house, looking through the windows.

My first T5 estate was a 1999 V70 in dark blue. One day two years ago I was sitting in my home office upstairs at 3:00PM when there was an almighty crash. I ran downstairs to see the front door kicked in, two scally c*nts in hoodies running out of the house with my keys and my T5 roar off the driveway.

The car was found in a field, written off, smashed into a tree. I live in South Manchester and the car was found in a field in Wythenshawe. Locals to Manchester will know why...

I then bought a new shape V70 T5. The very first thing I did when I got it home was to boil a kettle and remove the 'T5' badge from the tailgate with the hot water. It now remains totally anonymous and I have great fun pulling away from 3 series 'Road Owner' BMWs on the motorway.

I think the scally element really value the image of the 850 shape T5 and like them to go police baiting...
wythenshawe !!!!! that place is the pits, more scumbags per sq /in than anywhere else in the known universe(apart from s wales of course )ive had two stolen cars that ended up smoking wrecks in that cesspit of humanity, ps where in manchester are you? im in bramhall

I've never had any trouble with the three T5's we've had - two being badged T5's and one is unbadged.

I would imagine that the 850's are non-desirable to the 'yobs' and agree that these types of cars would be stolen for specific jobs.

I doubt that those who steal to order in this manner would consider the 850 to be honest, yes its powerful and quite quick with a big boot - but if you're going to the trouble of nicking a car for a job like this I would think that a much newer car would be desirable. Yes, most newish cars have more advanced alarms but that won't stop the determined theif.

If I were stealing a car to 'do' a bank job, I'd probably go for something along the lines of an Audi S4 or RS4 estate. Much quicker than the T5 and with 4WD abilities in a chase. If I were to steal a T5 for anonimity value I would go for the new shape V70.

I've always found 850 T5's to be very cheap to insure presumably partly down to the fact that they're unlikely to be stolen!

The insurance is the exact reason for my purchase of my T5... compared to a Rover 1.8 154bhp VVC the Volvo was cheaper

Default De-badging

sorry i cant see the point in de badging...any self respecting thief or hoodie scroat worth there salt would recognise a t5..., alloys, tailpipe, turbogauge on dashboard.....(850)....i agree with darren in that an S audi would certainly be a better getaway car than a heavy, seriously understeering volvo...now a s4 avant......now yer talkin'
i have no fear of my car being stolen as i have precautions, so i positively encourage a good burn up by having a large www.volvot5.co.uk sticker in the back window...this tends to encourage a fair bit of revving along side me at traffic lights...pulling away cautiously then wot it in third and spinning those wheels is one of my favorite passtimes......normally greeted with a nod of respect if the chav and me meet again...lol
cheers

I think you're crediting scrotes with too much intelligence jod. Most car crime, as statistics show, is opportunist. Most car thieves 'worth their salt' are not interested in 10 year old plus cars. It's not those we're trying to stop. It's the 'can't knick a new car they're too tough to crack but there's an old one' mob. If it says T5 on the back that means only one thing to them, whether it's an 850 or V70 is irrelevant.

Trouble is, most of the higher spec 2.0 and 2.5's have the same Columba alloys, roof spoiler and chrome tailpipe - they only miss the turbogauge but I doubt most Chavs would know what they are being used to Corsas and Saxos

Going back a few years, I almost bought a 2.0 20V 850 saloon (for insurance purposes - I was 17!). It was a very handsome car and looked exactly in every way like a T5.
