Default Volvo v40 2.0 T2 2016 boot lid not opening

My volvo boot/tailgate won't work on the handle. It does on the dash button or if I press my remote by double clicking the keyfob. Any ideas what this issue could be..

Did you remove plastic tail gate panel and check for broken wire that I previously suggested I’ve came across this fault 3 times now

In my cases remotes wouldn’t open lock I tried new lock on didn’t cure sent it back
I then removed handle it is a pain but found broken wire

I am going to try and remove it sometime and take a look. Thanks for your help, Lee. Very much appreciated. Is the plastic panel on the inside you need to remove. Its with you mentioning the wiper arm. Do you need to disconnect the battery too as messing with the electrics.

Your a star man and thank you. There was a blue and red wire behind the trim and the red looked a bit dogey. I cut and reconnect the red and hey presto job fixed. That back outer trim was a pain to get off, thought it was going to snap...
