D5252T Dynamic Pump Timing Question About VIDA-DICE
As far as I know, my V70 2.5 TDi is running MSA 15.8.
It's a late 1999 model, and it's got a Bosch MAF. Whenever I plug it into VIDA however, it tells me that it's MSA 15.7? I've been able to use VIDA to do diagnostics and wipe various faults, so my inkling is that even though VIDA says 15.7, it's actually 15.8? Is this common? My main question is about setting the pump timing using VIDA. I'm looking at DIAGNOSTICS > VEHICLE COMMUNICATION > ECM, and I'm getting the readings for "injection angle actual" and "injection angle desired". Is this what I need to be looking at? What readings do I need to get? IMG_0349.jpgIMG_0350.jpg

You're in the right area but you just need to click on the Advanced tab rather than Parameters.

Thanks.
There's lots of advice out there on how to perform this process with VOL-FCR, but barely any advice for VIDA. Will I get the same readouts as VOL-FCR, whereby it tells me how many degrees the timing is advanced or retarded by?

Once you find it it is more or less the same as volfcr!

It turns out the reason the car was running like **** is because the bolt for the pump belt tensioner pulley has stripped the threads in the head
I helicoiled the hole late last night, made a new bolt for it, and remounted the pulley. Got the car started again, but didn't get it timed up, so will take care of that this evening hopefully. IMG_0371.jpgIMG_0367.jpgIMG_0370.jpg

and so it continues...
Plugged into VIDA again tonight and went to the advanced tab, where it took me to a page describing the technique for checking the timing. It tells me to check the injection timing control value against the fuel temperature value and provides a graph to do this. VIDA gives me the reading for fuel temp ok. I cannot find an option specifically for injection timing control. The reading that I'm looking at instead is injection timing valve. Is this correct? It doesn't seem to be, as the reading produced by VIDA is in % as opposed to degrees. This value also fluctates anywhere between 19%-23% when the engine is running. (spending most of the time around 20%). I can't make head or tail of it. Shoudn't I be getting an injection timing reading in degrees? IMG_0374.jpgIMG_0372.jpg

As PNut says on the screen you'll see a box labeled VCT...double click it and will bring up the test window.
