well my 940lpt 2.3 auto estate averaged 37mpg on my last trip to ipswich and back with shorter journeys whilst there, i was suitably amazed as i had a tiny trailer on the back as well but on the downside the mpg around the town where i live is awful 25 if i am lucky and if we have traffic jams even less

@Apoplectic, just out of interest, how much are you paying for a gallon of fuel on your side of the pond.

I paid $3.64 a gallon for 93 octane on the way home today, or about £2.32.
Although the further from the Gulf of Mexico you go the price generally goes up, depending on state and county taxes. |

I've read through this with interest. I'm shortly due to get a 2 litre non-turbo manual and partly out of interest, partly because I get an odd sense of satisfaction from chasing numbers, and partly because fuel costs lots.. I intend on going down the 'hypermiling' route and getting absolute maximum MPG through a combination of basic modifications and very careful driving. I'm hopeful of hitting 40mpg, but fully expect about 30mpg to be my starting point (60 miles daily, 90% motorway and a-road).
I like a challenge! |

Funny how the mpg can vary so much with the same engines.
I think my latest 940 revs lower than my previous, more thirsty 940 in top gear , or is it just how efficient an engine is running at a given time ( worn plugs , air filter etc) that makes the difference? |
