well my 940lpt 2.3 auto estate averaged 37mpg on my last trip to ipswich and back with shorter journeys whilst there, i was suitably amazed as i had a tiny trailer on the back as well but on the downside the mpg around the town where i live is awful 25 if i am lucky and if we have traffic jams even less

@Apoplectic, just out of interest, how much are you paying for a gallon of fuel on your side of the pond.

I paid $3.64 a gallon for 93 octane on the way home today, or about £2.32.

Although the further from the Gulf of Mexico you go the price generally goes up, depending on state and county taxes.

I've read through this with interest. I'm shortly due to get a 2 litre non-turbo manual and partly out of interest, partly because I get an odd sense of satisfaction from chasing numbers, and partly because fuel costs lots.. I intend on going down the 'hypermiling' route and getting absolute maximum MPG through a combination of basic modifications and very careful driving. I'm hopeful of hitting 40mpg, but fully expect about 30mpg to be my starting point (60 miles daily, 90% motorway and a-road).

I like a challenge!

Funny how the mpg can vary so much with the same engines.
I think my latest 940 revs lower than my previous, more thirsty 940 in top gear , or is it just how efficient an engine is running at a given time ( worn plugs , air filter etc) that makes the difference?
