She sat unattended in the yard at work while I was away in west cork for 2 weeks, started first time, although despite unlocking ok the alarm went mental when I opened the door for some reason, locked it then unlocked it again and then all was fine.

I have started sorting out the suspension now also, the springs from Antz have been mounted to the front shocks I bought from Gatos a while back and all is going well, apart from a hell of a mission freeing the springs from the old dampers, spanners molgrips and hammers weren't doing any good so drastic measures were called for, you don't see that in the Haynes manual hahaha. Both the shocks and springs have had some rub down and aerosol treatment, I know that nobody will ever see them but I'm just a bit of a tart lol, I even had to buy a child's geometry set to do the whole 20 degree spring seat thing, nobody owns a protractor after they leave school do they lol.

new rear shocks are coming in at the local motor factors for 66 quid a pair which isn't bad, and I've already got new front and rear drop links to go on, also grabbed a Clio rear wiper as well.

An impact gun does the job of removing the top mount nuts. I could have separated them if you'd asked/I'd known/I'd have thought to ask haha

You know what I didn't even think about it, the few times I've split x40 struts before it's just been a case of clamp the spring, grab an 8mm open ended for the shock top and an 18mm swan neck spanner for the nut and they practically fall undone lol.

All ready to go on at the weekend, the spring compressors I have looked a bit hairy on the rears as they are such a small diameter so me pushing the top mounts down while the other halfs dad quickly spun the nut on a few turns did the job, managed to get the pair of rear shocks for a very competitive 53 quid plus the vat, a good price I thought, especially when they turned up on the motor parts van and were bilsteins haha.

got a bit after 9 years of owning the money pit
the clear coat has blown on the boot , passenger door and both front wings and passenger A post,, nipped off to a paint place for a quote,, £750,, apparently the car has had a tart up respray in the past on the area's where its clear coat is failing/failed/fallen off and the bonnet as well ,so factoring in the £ of the Rest of the bits it needs and the £ of the car/replacement of,, i may very well be putting it up for sale soon and looking for a n other volvo ..

And done, the fronts settled in at the perfect height but the arse is a little in the air, I'm blaming having broken and really weak springs before plus new shocks now too, if it doesn't settle down much I'm considering the option of re drilling the mounting hole in the rear arm lower down and welding up the original one to keep the strength, it seems viable to me, and has to be better than hacking coils off springs etc.

I'm hoping it settles in a bit more and the brand new rear shocks are a factor, because as it is now the front has lowered exactly 40mm and the rear is precisely 0mm lower, exactly the same height as it was haha
