Default Remote start

Why do I get the message that I need to start the engine, having had it remotely started. I cannot move it in gear too, so I can't ignore it and drive away

It ends up switching off the engine and then restarting

Am I missing something here?

I guess it's a security feature. Doing a 'normal' start after a remote one means the system checks for a valid key inside the car.

Mine doesn't switch off and restart the engine. Turning the knob simply activates all the other systems.

No need to switch off, just press the brake pedal and turn the engine start knob as usual.

This will activate all of the car's systems that remain dormant during a remote start.

Volvo are overestimating the ability of their customers to work this stuff out for themselves. Please don’t take this to be an insult, it is just a fact that many modern systems are not as obvious to customers as the engineers who designed them assume them to be. For instance, it took a lot of head-scratching for me to work out how the single panoramic roof switch worked for all its functions. Yes, it is obvious once we know how, but in the begining, not so much.

Actually, I quite like it the quirky way it is.

It is what attracted me to Volvo in the first place

Thinking about it, this actually makes sense to have the brakes depressed first ...

After a remote start your engine will be running to preheat defrost or cool the car but the ignition system is not turned on to activate other functions and safety features as well as steering lock and gear shift lock, a simple turn of the start knob is all thats required to do this but the key needs to be present to allow this as another safety/security feature.

What I get in the car and start it up, assuming it is below 10 degrees outside, all my heating settings (seats, steering wheel etc) kick in.

However when I remote start when it is below 10 degrees, none of these heating settings kick in.

What am I doing wrong?
