They built 200 electric c30's in 2012 , they have had hybrids for the last 4 or 5 years . also have a gearbox with built in electric motor they know what they are doing .. I'm sure there is a breakthrough in battery technology around the corner .

I am heavily involved in the rechargeable battery industry, and I am also a little surprised that Volvo haven't tried for an all-electric XC90.
The Geely investment means that Volvo should be ahead of the curve. They have a very strong relationship with CATL, who are already one of the largest cell makers in the world. Also, the head of Geely, Li Shu Fu is married to the sister of the Chinese President, hence the exponential growth of Geely from nowhere to one of the largest automotive companies in the world. I think Volvo is a prime example of Chinese "muscle" combined with Western experience, knowledge and caution. I expect that Volvo will release a whole new range of models soon, using CATL's latest batteries, and we will view ICE driving around city centres akin to allowing smoking on aeroplanes. WTF were we thinking??? |

I thought Volvo had already announced an electric XC90 for 2022, but the UK isn't a priority market as we are so far behind on charging infrastructure?

Funny as we are in the top ten countries (6th.) of the world buying electric cars at present for 2017, and I think 2018 share is going to be bigger, if I was a car manufacturer with a possible market share like that I would want to be in there.

I am keen to see what Volvo comes up with but at the moment the only electric car I would consider is the upcoming Audi e-tron SUV. |

It could just have easily been the truck which strayed. This is why I bought my first and subsequent Volvos, to protect my family. |
