"Agreed Value" can be awkward. The insurer will demand quite stringent proofs as to why the value of the vehicle you have stated is actually a 'true value!'

If you're lucky (I was when I went that route), you will just get away with a pile of photographs of the car, its odometer reading, various specific items etc. as being sufficient.

Start making "silly money" valuations and one can expect a polite refusal or a full and proper examination of the vehicle by a person of the insurer's choice (not cheap and paid for by the vendor) and that examiner's valuation would not be negotiable!

Default Theft

Both these models of Volvo are not easy to steal so I wouldn't be too worried, too much talk of values etc getting someone to actually pay some of the crazy asking pricedwould be a challenge, I think the majority of older Volvo's will remain affordable

Hmm. I doubt I've done a restoration to the kind of level I think you might be relating. But (being honest) I've done a couple of ringers, and it was hard bloody work. As for aging a panel after re-spray, I've absolutely no idea how you could re-create rust bubbles in time for it's inspection. But thanks for your thoughts.

You're just making life difficult for yourself by ringing the wrong cars. As for rust, just leave it un repaired.

The truth is, a large proportion of Lotus Cortina Mk1's and early Mini Coopers are a bit like Trigger's broom. Mechanicals and trim swapped over from a rusty, maybe race damaged shell to a better condition shell earlier in the car's life, mechanical stuff being replaced later as it wears out. All part of the lifecycle of cars like that back in the day, these days it's a problem as far as the DVLA are concerned, and it's why the most valuable cars (particularly those with a period racing history) will usually have a folder full of provenance.

Anyhow, back on topic. Unless it's an R, I can't see anyone targeting the theft of an older FWD Volvo yet - different for RWD cars where (some not all) Banger Racers are keen to source cars for the oval without actually having to pay for one.

When we biult rally cars we started with a shell, usually from a scrapyard and often re shelled damaged cars . Seam welded the shell, painted the engine bay and interior, and fitted the roll cage then the mechanicals went on, once the car was biult the final colours were painted. As they were escorts we fitted extra top mounts plates to streignthen the inner wing usually a strut brace was fitted after engine instalation.

It was up to the owner to sort registration.

Paul.
