It would be woth repairing yours , if you take it apart you will probably find the rubber head of one or both of the vacuum valves broken off . A tiny spot of superglue will repair it and give a couple more years of service from it ...

They they are unavailable from Volvo, I'm not at all sure where to look next. Are there any markings on it to indicate who is the original manufacturer of the part?

I believe the Volvo 300 Club in the Netherlands have some spares, as do the DAF club in the Netherlands...although I believe the 300 series valve is different to the DAF ones, so the latter may not be too much help...

cheers

James

The DAF 66 should be the same valve ... may be worth trying the DAF ownwers club , but , it is likely in 8 out of 10 cases that it is just one of the the rubber valve tips which has parted from it's stem , a speck of super glue has given a couple more years of service from all the ones i have repaired in the past !

hmmm.....attempted to repair it ...took it apart...but the lil black rubber bits aint broke???....have re-assembled and put it back in the car ...it is still making the clicking/spluttering sounds that caused the bloke who looked at it to say that it was the vacuum valve that was at fault.......im stumped

If the rubber valves are ok it's likely to be ok .if you pull the two rubber pipes off which go to the rear when idling there should be no suction but rev it up to 1200 - 1800- rpm and one of the valves should click and you should have vacuum at one port . ( The other port is for changing down when braking or low ratio hold switch is on ...

what is spluttering , the engine ? The valve? the clutch plate may be rattling thats failry "normal" as the thin hollow propshaft amplifies the sound ..

its the vacuum valve making the spluttering noise...seems to come with a click...i am tempted to think its normal but i wouldnt know as i never payed any attention to it untill i started having problems....it allmost sounds like a small piston moving with air pressure..(for lack of a better description)
