Well I did have enough Volvos to sink a ferry, alas I only have 3 244DLs at the moment, about 2 months ago I had 3 244DLs, a 240DL, 240GL estate, 240GLT Estate, 2 early 360 3 doors, 740GL and GLE and an 850s estate so as you can see I'm keen, I have stacks of cars!

I flatly refuse to engage in the 'I have more lock-ups stashed with cars than you' game

Call me obsessive - why not, everyone does - but I've always wanted a 66, and the DAF coupe version, and a 55 (marathon?) coupe. But my absolute fave is the 33 Pick-up - pure toytown stuff, and really cute, even more than the mini pick-up and yeah, where's my DS 23 Pallas, CX Turbo2, and the mega rare GS Birotor (I believe a handful escaped the Citroen recall)?

Sadly for all of us they are all getting mega rare now.

Cheers,

T

There are still quite a few of them about, but how often you see them probably tells you how many are daily driven...

cheers

So I've been a fan of old Citroens since the late 70s when my Uncle had a string of them and they seemed exotic-looking and mysteriously well equipped and, not to put too fine a point on it, much better than the assorted Datsuns and Cortinas my Dad drove. What's a mega rare GS Binotor when it's at home? Got any pics or links? Would love to see...

Ay up emmdee. AFAIK thr birotor was a two rotor ****el type engine supplied/made under licence by NSU fitted into afaik again a range topper GS and was only supplied to dealers and trusted customers on loan. When NSU ended up with a zillion warranty claims on the engine Citroen pulled all the GS's back in. Mega rare? Too right mate! Folk in the know reckon less than double figures escaped Citroens crusher.

This = truth. I have as friends a pair of brothers who are old Citroen nuts (they have still have a number of GSAs between them...and there are supposed to only be around 250 GS and GSAs left registered in the UK), and this is pretty much exactly as I was told it, too.

cheers

James

Well, we're off-topic but I didn't start it!!

GS Birotor:

A fascinating car. It had a lot of re-engineering and not that much in common with the flat-four GS.

Some more info here:

I never had a GS, but ran a DS23 as my everyday car for a few years in the late 90's. Wonderful machine.

Thanks for the pics.

I was fascinated with them as a kid, and still am. Also fascinated by the Ro 80 and that other mega rarity, the NSU Spider (The world's first rotary engine car).

The engine was built by Comobil, later known as Comotor which was a joint venture with NSU. The recall too place it's believed in some quarters due to Peugeot's demands, not wanting to inherit possible expensive warranty claims (they were in the throws of taking over Citroen who, not for the first time, had fallen on hard times). An interesting might-have-been was the Tri-Rotor which they were testing at the time as a replacment for the ancient DS motor that powered the CX.
There is a RHD car in Australia, believed to be the prototype for the RHD market, and the sole RHD car built.

I so want one of these

Cheers,

T

p.s. I vaguely remember seeing an early 240 with a rotary way back in the mists of time.

p.p.s There is another mega rare rotary. Anyone remember the Van Veen?
