Default Steering column - is everyone's exposed like this?

I kind of like the fact that I can see the steering column behind the pedals.

However, I was wondering it this is because I am missing some trim, or whether every can see their steering column.

And if everyone can see theirs, for those whose vehicle is over 3 years old, is there corrosion around the same place?

Just curious, as obviously the hold through the floor pan is leading "outside" so maybe this is quite a damp area (hence the lack of carpet)

(My XC60 is 20K miles, 3.5 years old)

Thanks in advance.

I've never looked, but am pretty sure mine isn't like that.

I'll check in a bit and let you know.

If that's how it's supposed to be, I've seen better finish on an Austin Allegro.

Default I should clarify that...

I should clarify that my original photo is a view from very close to the carpet, almost pointing upwards.

really poor isn't it really, why has it corroded and why doesn't it have some trim or at least a rubber boot like older models. yet if you greased it or similar to stop corrosion, the 2nd picture is awful and not what you expect of a premium car you would end up with grease on your shoes and on your carpets when you get home!

Here is mine. As an owner of one of the older XC60s this is 6 years worth of rust.

Mine is exactly the same minus the rust. Although the carpet surface does not go up that far it is not metal but a thick flexible underlay that you can see.

The steering column link is movable so maybe that is why there is no cover also you can't see it unless you are laying on the floor.

My car is 18 months old and if you had not mentioned it I would never have seen it as it is completely out of sight unless you get down on the floor.

Wet shoes? No rust near the bottom.
