Default V50 - intermittent failure of reaar parking sensors

The rear parking/reversing sensor on our V50 from time to time just emits a continuous tone as soon as reverse gear is selected rather than beeping when nearing another car, etc.,

Any thoughts on what the problem is and how to fix it?

P.S. wouldn't it be good if you could edit the title?

I get this occasionally too, I don't know if it's a fault as such or just the system getting confused as 98% of the time it works just fine.

I suspect one of the ultrasonic sensors is beginning to die, not sure if VIDA/DICE would show which but worth a check if you have that.

Not a solution but if you want to stop the beep when it goes wrong, hit exit on the center console.

Thanks. In my case it’s more like 50% of the time it doesn’t work properly. As you say, hitting exit on the control panel switches it off but I’d like to get to the bottom of it. I’ll ask my local independent Volvo guy to check it out if he can.
