Is your sister older than you? Something i found by accident a few years ago is having someone over the age of 50, especially a female, can reduce the premium considerably.

Have to say though, you're the first person i've encountered where Admiral MultiCar has shown a sensible premium - last time i had a quote from them they wanted about 3 times as much as i was currently paying on 3 separate classic policies!

My sister is a few years younger than me, but she is quite good at beating them down on price each year. We never accept the first quote.

The main issue I have with Admiral is that their model is designed to suck people in by making all their policies renew on the same date which potentially increases the cost and hassle of splitting them out into separate policies again later. We pay in one annual lump sum so are able realistically to threaten to do this. I suspect if one relied on monthly payments and credit checks it would be a major hassle to exit again.

Like the good 'Laird' with other Insurers/Brokers, I have never found Lancaster competitive. On occasion they have refused to consider my 29 year old everyday user a classic!!

I've had similar arguments with them at certain times over the years Bob. I once owned an 827SLi that was mechanically identical to my Sterling but a year newer - because it wasn't a Sterling (the only thing missing was cruise control as the original owner had optional extras to bring it to the same spec except CC) they refused to accept it was a classic!

They quite happily accpeted my 827 Coupe (a year newer than the "Imposter" 827SLi) as a classic because it was Sterling spec (although never officially badged as such) but mostly because it was the Coupe.

I'm sure they make it up as they go along sometimes, including the premiums themselves!

I've just taken out a new policy for my 740, oddly enough. I'm paying £280 PA with Santander. I shopped around endlessly but couldn't find anyone who would cover it for less than that. That's fully comp, £250 voluntary excess, with my partner Amy as named driver.

I have an identical policy with Hastings Direct for my 240, which is £100 cheaper-£180 PA. I asked them to quote me for the 740 and they wanted £600 PA!!

I don't understand the way it's structured at all. Both cars have identical engines and are stock with no mods. The 240 is three years younger than the 740, that's the only discernable thing that I can think of that may make a difference.

Nowt wrong with that.
I pay about the same every year, sometimes 3rd-party-etc, sometimes comp,
but not limited mileage.

This includes business use and commuting on all four cars; fully comprehensive although I’m under no illusions that they would probably right the car off if I tried to claim for damage to it.

The only other thing to note is that I also insure my sister’s Nissan Micra on the same policy (diffierent address) and she is a named driver on my cars and the overall policy administrator although I’m the policy holder on my four sub-policies. This might help to keep the premiums down since I suspect insurance companies still favour women drivers.
Initially I was looking at Classic insurance for my 1996 940. However I already had my 2017 Seat insured with Admiral and I was surprised that they beat the best classic policy on price. It's not insured as a classic and I will start to qualify for no claims bonus on the 940 which isn't possible on a classic policy. Of course that depends on their renewal quote being sensible.

Funnily enough, i thought the same so queried it a few years ago NCB started appearing on my renewal notices. Turns out some classic underwriters are now giving NCB on their policies. I now have 5+ years NCB on both of my beasts.
