....long term it is a problem, my Sprinter van run at a slightly higher temp which I thought would be ok, but eventually it warped the cylinder head amonst other problems, which led to a new engine which cost more than the savings I made at the pump. More to the point the stress, hassle and downtime involved wasn't worth the effort.

I'd say either, your prob was totally unrelated to the Biodiesel, unless it wasn't "real" Biodiesel (lots of dodgy stuff out there) or something that you may have been mixing with it, acetone, petrol??

I still stand by my claim, that virtually All engines will run perfectly well, and without modification on GOOD QUALITY, WELL MADE Bio....

Hi Mike,

I've moved from my Volvo V50 to an 2006 AUDI A4 Avant due to potential issues running BIO with the common rail system on the V50.

I have a Biodiesel processor which i make good clean BIO with, but also get from a producer near me who makes excellent grade BIO.

I own a Landrover 110 Defender too and both AUDI & LANDY run perfectly on 100% BIO and have done for thousands of miles.

My questions is this - I'm looking to come back to Volvo and buy an XC90 and wanted to ask how you got on with yours on BIO and what year it is/how many miles on BIO/what % ratio etc.?

Any experienced info you can give would be really helpful.

Thanks - Noles

Not so sure you will get an answer, look at his "last on line date" October 2010.

Default 07 XC90 D5 on BioDiesel?

Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone had any recent experience with BioDiesel? My XC90 is an occaisonal car - perhaps a couple of thousand miles a year. Most of my miles are electric - and it would be great to be completely fossil fuel free.

Cheers

Rob

If your current car is electric (see what I did there?) I think you are on the wrong forum.

If I only did a couple of thousand miles a year, I would tend not to worry about using bio.

If you really want to save the planet, get some roller skates
(Preferably made out of bamboo)

Cheers

Dave (not a vegan - since you ask)

No XC 90 engine is suitable for bio diesel. Read your handbook. Get an old Merc or TD 940 or Golf if you want to go the bio diesel route. Be prepared to wreck the engine though as it is very hit or miss with any engine. Some thrive and some give up the ghost.
