How can you tell when DPF is regenerating. Is there a light displayed or some difference in the way the car drives on the XC60?

Had a V70 previously with DPF and never could tell (apart from perhaps the first timd when it was new and got very hot and smelt like it was on fire).

You cannot really. However.............

.....in the screen that relates to stop/start it may say 'engine management'.......also ease off the pedal and watch the inst mpg gauge - it may never get to 99.9 or may take a while to get to 99.9 - this indicates a potential regen.

Also try gunning it and you will notice your car is a bit sluggish if you know the performance you are accustomed to.

Plus a bit of a smell, mainly only noticed when getting out of the car. The smell you would have had with your new car was the car burning off its 'greasy protection' they apply at manufacture.

From the engine note and the feel of engine -- it gets more 'throbby' and the throttle response gets soft and wooly. Also the instant mpg read-out drops into the low 30s

Thanks Gents. Can't say I have necessarily noticed anything on my new XC60 but did think it was very sluggish once when putting my foot down and put it to down to getting used to the speed of the new car. Only it has never felt sluggish since so might have been during a cycle.

I suppose it's when the DPF light comes on that you need to worry..... as that means go for a long drive until it goes out - thankfully not had that though!

I have never been able to notice whilst driving. Only when you get out of your car and you the engine working hard still despite being turned off or there is a bad smell. I think there should be a dashboard light as if you were coming to the end of a journey you could go round the block again just to finish off the regen.

Yes, good idea. I read somewhere that if it didn't manage to finish the cycle whilst you were driving, then it had to start from scratch again next time it reached the optimum temperature.

I've been watching the cat sensors on my car the last few days, they get up to temp very quickly now the summer has kind of arrived, within 3 or 4 miles has them at a constant temp.
Local running sees them at 220-250C, motorway running over 300C.

What worries me is more so the diesel draining off into the sump and raising the oil level, if the regen does not complete. If any DPF light comes on you can go for a drive to solve it hopefully, if the engine oil rises you can't drive the thing safely at all..!!

Does anyone know if this is still an issue with the new vea d4?
