Speedo Cables..........
So the Speedo, (Odometer), Cable for 400's. Now it seems that this is one part that is totally unavailable for any model or any year. (And believe me, I've looked).
But one thought has struck me. Does each model/engine size/gearbox have to have its own specific cable or will any cable off any model fit any other? Surely, the "gearing" to show the correct speed, mileage etc, is governed by the gearbox connection and the pick up on the back of the speedo unit - isn't the "cable" just a way of joining the two - and might as well, in effect, be a "piece of string"? So does any old cable from any 400 model being scrapped work, or have I missed something here? Advice please!

only the early cars had a cable, later ones were electronic. Speedy cables should be able to restore your cable

Errrr, ok, my 440 is a 96 2.0L Auto, and definitely a cable joining the 'box to the speedo....?
However, thank you for the reminder about Speedy Cables, they did clever things with my 1958 Wolseley 1500 years ago and I'd forgotten all about them - thanks for that!!
