Yours is new though, and has the euro 4 185bhp version engine.

Default V70 Diesel fuel & Vibrating

Reading the threads, the V70 D5 is very unstable as far as fuel consumtion is concerned. I just replaced my 1999 V70D for a 2006 D5 SE Manual, which achieved 50-51 on a 250 trip down the M1 averaging about 60mph. Local trips were in the 35 area.

I have since replaced this Car with another V70 D5 SE this weekend. Again we did the same M1 trip, did not go above 65mph. I set the read out, when starting off. I am amazed that the Average fuel consumption read 64miles to the gallon. STRANGE.

Also, does anybody know how to stop the Grey Engine cover from vibrating. Which makes a noice.

I'm very seriously considering buying a 2005-2007 V70 D5 SE to replace my S70, but I want to borrow one for at least a day to see what sort of improvement it gives over the S70. I'll have to see if I can talk nicely to a dealer...

cheers

James

there are spongy rubber type grommets holding the engine cover in place , on mine 2003 V70 D5 126k miles these have deteriorated , the one that fits around the oil filler cap I think due to oil leaking out into the material possibly during prolonged high speed driving which is not often as I am more interested in getting high mpg , have had my D5 since new and the average mpg over its life has been 54 calculated from the fill ups and not the trip computer , I would like a T5 and seriously considered buying one but my bean counter brain got the better of me , reading these posts over 126k miles it would have cost an extra £7k in fuel even if I could acheive an average 35mpg which I probably couldnt .

I'm in two minds. With the higher cost of the fuel, and the (potentially) less-than-huge improvement in MPG, the saving may not be that great. It depends on what one would do with the sort of driving I do. If I'm getting 30mpg at the moment, it would have to manage at least 45, preferably 50+ to make it worth it in my mind.

The other factors I have to balance it against are that a) I can do almost anything to my petrol S70, but I'd have to rely on the dealer far more for a D5. That wouldn't be an issue if all it needed engine-wise was basic service items, as many diesels seem to manage, and b) with the cost of the car, I'm going to have to keep it for a veeeery long time to make it worth the extra over an older petrol V70 (~£1k?). My 1997 car doesn't really show its age, so age alone is no incentive to me.

LPG on a V70 T5 would probably be a wiser investment for me....IF the price of LPG stays low. Hummm....

cheers

James

The "new" shape V70 has taken a hit on the fuel consumption. I had a Saab 1.9 Tdi last week, that only returned 40 mpg driving the same as my 850 Tdi(also 40 odd).

The 2005 shape should return better than 40 mpg unless you have a heavy right foot, the 2005 D5 in out house records 52 on the computer, and thats geartronic.

That's very similar to my 2003 V70 D5, including the vibration.

My last car only did an average of about 26, I've only had it 3 weeks, so I'm still in cloud cuckoo land, and have a rosy glow when I pass petrol stations with out an automatic tendency to turn in.
